One of the great things about being here for a good long time is that you don't feel the pressure to cram sightseeing into a few days. As a result we're taking it slowly. We still haven't been to the old part of Montreal yet. We have been to a few of the museums including the nicely old-fashioned and eclectic Redpath Museum with a fine collection of fossils, mummies, stuffed animals and rocks:
It even had an interesting shell collection - which is something of a first.
We've mainly explored Downtown Montreal which is mostly pretty bland and American - but does have a good amount of public art:
The best bit so far is an installation of 21 swings that make music as you move. Truly a piece of art that all generations can enjoy!
We've also been to the Botanical Gardens which is adjacent to the Olympic Park from the 1976 Montreal Games. Not a bad stadium but doesn't compare to London I think.
One thing Montreal excels in is its provision of playgrounds. Particularly out here in the suburbs you can barely turn a corner without coming across another playground - and they're all very new and nicely designed. There's even an interactive electronic one that allows you to play competitive physical games using the equipment. It's very clever but I can't work out how to use most of the games. Maybe you have to be under 15 to understand it?
